Man denies offering fake USM degree

A 26-year-old man was accused at a Sessions Court here of cheating a university student who paid RM14,500 for a fake degree.

Lim Chuan Soon, who formerly owned an online gaming business, pleaded not guilty before judge Aslam Zainuddin yesterday.

He allegedly cheated Universiti Teknologi Mara student Wan Noorhafiza Wan Hussin, 23, of her money to produce a Bachelor’s Degree (Hons) in Accounting Management from Universiti Sains Malaysia.

The offence was allegedly committed between June 19 and 28 at a Maybank branch in Seksyen 14 here.

Lim was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code and faces a maximum 10 years’ jail and whipping and is also liable to a fine.

DPP Faten Hadni Kamaruddin offered RM10,000 bail with one surety.

Aslam fixed bail at RM8,000. The case is set for mention on Sept 6.
