Nagpur University has found an engineering college lecturer to be holding a fake PhD degree awarded by the Chandra MohanJha University (CMJU). Interestingly, he is also PhD supervisor for the university.

The NU has decided to lodge a police complaint against SurendraRehmatkar, working at the Computer Science and Information Technology Department of the NIT Engineering College, for allegedly submitting a fake PhD degree, pro-VC MaheshkumarYenkie informed.

Yenkie added that even the recognition of his PhD supervisor had been cancelled and he has been asked to come up with an explanation. After TOI expose on June 4, the Maharashtra government issued a circular sternly directing all non-agriculture universities to immediately cancel all appointments, promotions and increments, made on the basis of degrees obtained from CMJU. This newspaper had published the university’s modus operandi and how it ‘sold’ thousands of fake degrees, including 4,000 PhDs, across the country for anywhere between Rs2 lakh and Rs5 lakh.
