Three men held in Belapur for selling fake certificates

The city crime branch central unit has busted a gang selling fake degree certificates and mark-sheets and arrested three people in Belapur, who were operating it since 2007. The arrested are Nilesh Doke (31), Pravin Chavan (30) and Jaidev Dawane (44) but their accomplice, Deepali Dhamale (22) has not yet been arrested, due to lack of evidence.

Police commissioner K L Prasad had received an email stating the owners of S S Distance Education Foundation and S S College of Distance Education were allegedly selling fake certificates, by forging the stamps and authorized signatures of various colleges and universities. They found that the accused had sold fake SSC, HSC, B Com, B Sc, M Sc, D Pharmacy and B Pharmacy certificates to many students for huge amounts of cash.

Police inspector Sunil Bajare said that on scrutiny of the accused’s bank account, they found transactions of around Rs 1 crore had been carried out. He added, if the students are traced, they, too, will be held for cheating.
