Man held for helping accused get bail on fake documents

The local police claim to have busted a gang that used to bail out accused using fake documents, with the arrest of a man on Monday.  The accused has been identified as Om Parkash of Gopal Nagar of Haibowal.

The Division Number 5 police have recovered a fake identity card of Nambardar and forged voter card from Parkash’s possession. Both the cards carry pictures of Parkash in different guises.

Police said the accused, in collusion with court employees, used to roam around in the court complex. Whenever, the kin of an accused approached court employees for bail, they allegedly used to refer them to Parkash, who used to charge anywhere between Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 50,000 to help them.

The accused then used to produce a fake affidavit before the court that he had not bailed out anyone before. He also used to produce fake property papers and did not get them stamped by the court, in connivance with court employees, and later used the same document to help other accused get bail.

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Vipan Kumar of Court Complex police post, said he arrested the accused following a tip-off and recovered forged documents from him.

A case under sections 419 (cheating by personation), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 465 (forgery), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471(using as genuine a forged document), 199 (false statement made in declaration which is by law receivable as evidence), 200 (using as true such declaration knowing it to be false) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accused.
