21 booked for duping SBI for fake car loans

District crime branch (DCB) police have registered a case against 21 people on Saturday for cheating the State Bank of India (SBI) branches at Veerakeralam and Vadavalli of 1.93 crore by giving fake documents. Police said, they took car loans from the bank but did not buy any car. Police have planned pickup two senior officials of the bank who sanctioned the loan amounts, for detailed inquiry.

P Selvaraju, 59, chief manager (rural), SBI, regional business office, lodged a complaint with DCB and told in his complaint that SV Karthikeyan, 30, and M Sethuram alias Ravi, 38, from Periyar Colony at Vadavalli were former employees of Gem Motors. They had forged the invoice of Gem Motors, registration certificates, insurance policies and sales receipts. They gave the application for car loan at Vadavalli branch and a loan amount of 8 lakh was sanctioned by the branch on October 4, 2012.

The duo also approached K Muralidharan alias Manickam, 36, an auto mobiles sales agent from Perur and told him to arrange for a few people to get car loans from SBI Vadavalli and Veerakeralam branch by giving fake documents. Likewise, 18 people had applied for car loans and the loan amounts were sanctioned by the banks.

The conman had opened 14 accounts in SBI Vadavalli branch and received 1.18 crore between October 4, 2012 and July 31, 2013. Six accounts were opened at Veerakeralam branch and 75 lakh were sanctioned to the borrowers between June 14, 2013 and September 4, 2013.

After receiving the loan amounts, the borrowers failed to return the money. Then the regional business officials were approached by the branch level officials. Later,

The borrowers were asked to produce their cars before the bank officials for verification. They could not produce them for verification. A team of bank officials then went through documents and came to know that they were forged documents.

Based on Selvaraju’s complaint, DCB police registered a case against Karthikeyan, Sethuram, Muralidharan, P Pavithra, 28, from Edayarpalayam road, Vadavalli, SM Rameshkumar, 35, from Ponnaiahrajapuram, K Sathishkumar, 27, from Thudiyalur, R Devendrakumar, 30, from IOB colonoy, Vadavalli, C Manoranjithan, 42, from Kavundampalayam, K Manombika, 28, from Maniyakarampalayam, R Hemalatha from Periyar Colony, Vadavalli, D Devaraj, 38, from Velandipalayam, M Sathish, 27, from Kavundampalayam, L Kakharam, 29, from Kuniamuthur, VP Shivkumar, 38, from SIHS Colony, C Rajendran, 32, from Velandipalayam, KP Jagadeesh, 30, from Edayarpalayam on Thadagam Road, C Sivasubramanian, 28, from Arumugagoundanur, V Jayaraman, 34, from Perur, M karthiravan, 42, from Udayampalayam, P Sakthivel, 43, from Selvapuram North and S Karthick, 32, from TVS Nagar.
