The Rajasthan police’s special operations group (SOG) on Monday searched the Jodhpur National University campus and interrogated some of its officials in relation with a fake degree case.
The SOG, after arresting three persons including the national coordinator of JNU in Jaipur last week, disclosed the fake degree racket which allegedly provided degrees of a Jodhpur-based private university to students who never physically appeared in the examination.
However, JNU officials are denying their involvement in the case, but SOG is investigating the case with a view that without the involvement of JNU officials, granting fake degrees to students would not have possible.
The SOG team is also in search of JNU chairman Kamal Mehta, who has reportedly gone into hiding after the arrest of three persons in Jaipur.
The SOG team led by deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Bhagwat Singh reached the JNU campus at Bhandu village around 20 kilomtres from the district headquarter and searched many documents in the administrative block of the private university.
The team was in the city since Saturday, but they were informed that the campus is closed because on winter vacation. However, the SOG asked the registrar to open the office on Monday.
“We have searched the records of the JNU at its campus today and have asked them to provide certain documents regarding courses being offered by the private university,” a SOG official said.
He said that during the search, JNU officials cooperated with SOG and agreed to provide all the required documents. “Investigation at the JNU campus will continue tomorrow,” the official further said.
