According to media reports, the cabinet division issued a notice in this regard overnight, to which the HEC responded that it violated the Supreme Court’s orders which dictated that none of the HEC’s responsibilities could be transferred until new legislation was drafted for this matter.
HEC Chairman Javed Laghari refused to obey this decision by the caretaker government and called it unconstitutional. He called for the order to be revoked, adding that such attacks on the HEC would not be tolerated in the future.
He also wrote to caretaker Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso, asking him to look into the matter.
