The National Commission on Higher Education (NCHE) has said that it remains resolute in pursuing and weeding out’ professors’ with fake credentials from the country’s higher institutions of learning.
The Director-General of the Commission, Dr. Michael P. Slewion, disclosed that there are several individuals entering the country and masquerading as terminal degree holders, but who have failed to submit copies of their credentials to the Commission.
Addressing a press conference in Paynesville recently, he promised to bring to book the individuals involved and turn them over to the relevant authorities for academic dishonesty.
Dr. Slewion said while it is true that the revamping process of the nation’s education system requires the contributions of every well-meaning Liberian and foreign partners, it also requires academicians with the appropriate credentials to help in the process.
Dr. Slewion vowed to uphold the integrity of the nation’s education system and promised that the Commission on Higher Education under his leadership will not be used as a dump-site for fake degrees.
He noted that faking of credentials creates “self-made professors”, saying this is a vice that has the propensity to destroy the standard of education.
Meanwhile, Dr. Slewion has lamented that some institutions operating in the country have not met the requisite criteria to operate as degree granting institutions, but are doing so.
Recently, the Commission on Higher Education ordered the closure of the St. Clément University in Paynesville for employing one Dr. Niden Peters as Vice President whose credentials the commission said remain unverified.
