The Chief Judicial magistrate in Pauri Garhwal awarded five years imprisonment to a person working as an associate professor in a medical college for submitting fake degree for appointment.
The magistrate yesterday found the accused, K P Singh, guilty under section 420 of IPC (Cheating and dishonesty)and imposed a fine of Rs 5000 on him, besides the imprisonment, Government Attorney Digpal Singh Negi said.
Singh worked as an associate professor for almost an year before the truth came to the limelight. He joined as an associate professor at Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Government Medical College at Srinagar in Garhwal on September 1, 2011 in the department of microbiology.
“At the time of appointment he submitted a photocopy of his degre. He was later directed to produce the original copy, which he did not” he said.
This further raised suspicion of then head of the institution, Dr Sneh Lata Sood, who wrote a letter to the secretary of Medical Education regarding fake medical degree of KP Singh.
She further launched a inquiry and appointed Dr Neelam Sharma, head of the microbiology department, as an investigating officer for the matter.
The report which was then submitted to head of the institution, revealed that the photocopy submitted by KP Singh was a fake certificate.
Later on June 12 last year, FIR was lodged by the new Head of the institution Dr VL Jahangeer, following which the accused was sent to jail.
