After a complaint was received from the Special Branch on Tuesday, Tirupati East police registered a case against Gangi Reddy on Sunday for obtaining a passport with the help of forged documents, under the Indian Passport Act.
Gangi Reddy, a known red sanders smuggler was also involved in the 2003 Alipiri attack on TD president N. Chandrababu.
Gangi Reddy obtained a passport on June 26, 2003, and his date of birth mentioned on the passport is October 11, 1972. However, on his PAN card, DoB is June 14, 1965. Police concluded that Gangi Reddy had used forged documents to obtain a passport. The police conducted midnight searches at his residence in Jayanagar Colony and seized his documents.
On Monday, the police visited the regional passport office in Tirupati. The police has learnt that Gangi Reddy renewed his passport from Hyderabad. Meanwhile, the Kurnool police filed petition in the division bench of AP High Court seeking dismissal of the bail given to Gangi Reddy. Sources said he was currently in Bahrain.
