Bangalore Mirror had, on 3 November 2014, reported the various violations in the admission procedures to Bachelor of Unani and Modern Medicines with Surgery (BUMS) course at the Government Unani Medical College on Magadi Road.

We had cited the preliminary investigation reports by the Ayush (Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy) Department. BJP MLCs Ashwathnarayan and G Madhusudhan sought clarification over the issue on Monday.

Acknowledging that there have been no irregularities at the college, Health and Family Welfare Minister UT Khader said, “Even though no student of out-of-the-state origin was given admission during 2013-14, three students were admitted to BUMS course with fake documents. Upon investigation, it was proved that all students had been admitted to the college violating various provisions. Based on the internal reports, the RGUHS has suspended the admission of all the three students on 3 March 2015.”

Sources in the Ayush department revealed that Selection Committee had the right to admit students to seats that were left vacant during CET. However, the committee had to conduct walk-in-interviews to screen the students before admitting students. “In 2013-14, students who got admitted legally had quit the course. But the same was not communicated to the government and three other students were illegally admitted in their places,” explained a senior official.

Khader clarified that a departmental inquiry has been ordered against college officials who had been named in the investigation reports. “A joint inquiry will be conducted against such errant officials as per the Rule 13 of the Karnataka Civil Services (CCA) Rules of 1957,” Khader clarified. RGUHS suspended the admission of students—Mallikarjun G, Prasad NV and Vinay who were admitted to the college on the grounds of fake documents.
