A local court today issued non-bailable warrants against nine Lucknow University officials for failing to appear before it in connection with a case of fake education certificates scam.

False documents ring smashed

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Sunder Lal issued the order against the officials who are accused of providing fake documents to 18 students, who later used them for admission in an institution in Muzaffarnagar.

The court directed the police to produce the nine officials, including an office superintendent, before it on December 13.

In 2010, as many as 18 students managed to secure admission in a  Basic Training Certificate (BTC) institution in the district on the basis of the fake certificates.

The incident came to light during the verification of documents. A case of cheating was then registered against the 18 students, who later surrendered before the court.

After the case was transfered to CB-CID, an ensuing enquiry into the scam found that nine officials of Lucknow University had provided fake certificates to a gang.

Meanwhile, CB-CID sources said three officials of Agra University have also been found to be allegedly involved in the scam.
