Justice Muhammad Khalid Mehmood Khan of the Lahore High Court on Thursday stayed Election Commission’s proceedings against Javed Latif, a member of the National Assembly from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), in a bogus degree case and sought a reply.
Petitioner Javed Latif, who returned to the National Assembly from NA-133, Sheikhupura, submitted through his counsel that a voter named Muhammad Afzal sought his disqualification on the ground that he possessed a fake graduation degree.
He said that the court had already declared his degree genuine one while graduation condition was not mandatory to contest the 2013 general elections.
He said that under Article 218 of the constitution, the commission was notcompetent to hold such proceedings after completion of elections.
