Pakistan International Airlines has planned to take another action against fake degree holders as the inquiry of 1,000 staffers is underway.

PIA mulls action against fake degree holders

Sources privy to the matter revealed that inquiry about the fake degree holders has been underway from the last three months but the authorities were reluctant to take action against the employees because of political influence.

They said majority of the ‘suspect’ employees, who got jobs on fake degrees, were the appointees of previous government when the appointment letters have been distributed among the influential political workers as reward.

Authorities have sent notices to various employees and asked them to get their documents verified if they were not forged. Most of the employees were unable to answer the notices given by the department but authorities have yet to be sacked them and still given them time to prove their degrees legal.

Sources further said recently PIA had confirmed the total staff strength of 16,600 employees and in few years around 3,000-4,000 employees have had retired.

No new induction has been made and therefore employee ratio per aircraft has reduced. PIA spokesmen Mashood Tajwar told The Nation that verification process has continued since long and employees having forged degrees have been fired. On the other hand, the department has not sacked a huge number of staffers in the same time. He said those who were sacked had unable to prove their degrees original and the department had fired them after thorough investigation.

It is pertinent to mention here that PIA has fired at least 500 employees including the pilots in recent past.
