Two arrested for using fake documents to apply for jobs

Two men have been arrested for allegedly using bogus documents to get a job at an Iowa Falls company.

Agents with the Homeland Security Investigations discovered the fake paperwork while conducting an audit at Iowa Select Farms, according to court records.

On Wednesday, Nery Davis Acabal-Guinac and Rafael Garcia-Jose appeared in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids on charges of use of a counterfeit identification document. They were detained pending future court appearances.


Court records allege Acabal provided a permanent resident card and indicated he was an alien authorized to work when he applied at Iowa Select in July 2010, court records state. Garcia applied in October 2013 and claimed he was a lawful permanent resident and provided a permanent resident card.

Homeland Security officials said in court records that the registration numbers on both cards were validly issued numbers assigned to other people.

Homeland Security agents audited Iowa Select’s immigration forms in October 2013 an found several employees had provided false information, court records state.

Agents filed criminal complaints against Acabal and Garcia on Aug. 20, and the cases remained sealed until Wednesday.
