Bengaluru police arrest fake lawyer in Athani

Bengaluru Vidhana Soudha police arrested a fake lawyer from Athani town of the district on Wednesday morning based on the complaint given by Karnataka State Bar Council (KSBC). Shivaji Sanadi is an accused.

Accused used to practice in Athani court wearing black coat and his behavior was odd sources said. Out of doubt, Athani Bar Association had complained to KSBC. Following the complaint, KSBC checked his law degree certificates, which discovered fake.

When asked KSBC state president P P Hegde said the law degree certificates submitted to KSBC by an accused while availing enrollment (Sanad) were fake. Certificate was belonging to Magadh University of Bihar. When cross-checked, sources of the concerned university confirmed that no such student studied in that university. “We have already cancelled his enrollment and booked criminal case against him”, Hegde said.


Recently, KSBC issued notices to five lawyers practice in Raibag court based on the complaint of Raibag Bar Association. Followed by the notice, three of them admitted their offense with the KSBC and surrendered their enrollment. They admitted about submitting fake law degree certificates for availing enrollment. KSBC has fixed date of inquiry of other two lawyers on 9 thJanuary at Bengaluru. Raibag based RTI activist cum advocate Surendra Ugare had exposed this fake lawyer scandal a month ago.

“We don’t want to anybody escape from the punishment. KSBC has taken this issue seriously and initiating legal action. The guilty will be punished. We have already initiated proceedings against fake lawyers found in Raibag town. The action is also being initiated based on the complaints received on social media and e-mail regarding doubtful lawyers”, KSBC head Hegde said to the TOI.

Responding to this paper, RTI activist Ugare said there may be lot more number of fake lawyers across the state and it required CID inquiry to find out black sheeps. “I am going to file public interest litigation (PIL) in high court shortly on this matter”, he said.
