A senior UoP official told Mirror, “After we detected instances of forgery in certain documents that had been submitted to us for verification, we insituted an internal inquiry under the Dean of Commerce Dr Sudhakar Jadhavar, who thoroughly scrutinised every document and submitted his report to vice chancellor Dr Wasudev Gade. Following this, Gade decided to register a police complaint in this case.”

A month ago, UoP had received the degree certificates, mark sheets, bona-fide certificates and other educational documents of over 100 candidates, who had applied for jobs in Singapore and Iran through overseas consultants, for verification purposes.

Confirming the development, UoP Registrar Dr Narendra Kadu told Mirror, “On the basis of an internal inquiry, we have now submitted an application to the Chatuhshrungi police station asking them to register an offence in the case.”

Upon investigating the forged documents, the UOP officials found that only the names of original candidates had been replaced, leaving other information like seat numbers, registration number, marks and grades et al intact.

When contacted by Mirror, senior Police Inspector Arun Sawant of Chatushringi police station confirmed the receipt of UoP’s complaint application, along with the photocopies of the forged degrees and marksheets. “Before registering an FIR, we will scrutinise the original degrees along with the alleged forged degrees and marksheets submitted by UoP,” he said.
