The convict also forged the seal of Qatar’s embassy in Dhaka, Bangladesh’s capital city, to attest the fake degree and put a forged signature of an embassy official as well.

The crime was detected when the man took the forged degree of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology in Bangladesh to Qatar’s foreign ministry here for counter-attestation.

A woman staffer of the ministry suspected foul play and kept the degree and filed a complaint. The forensic laboratory confirmed that the seal of Qatar’s embassy put on the man’s B Tech degree was forged.

A police complaint was filed and the Public Prosecution, after questioning the convict, filed charges in court. The convict admitted during interrogation that he had got the forged degree after paying $275 (QR1,000) to someone in Dhaka.

Appearing as a witness, the woman employee of the foreign ministry told the prosecution that when the convict handed the degree for attestation, she suspected foul play looking at the seal of the Qatari embassy in Dhaka.

The man told the prosecution that his intention to forge the degree was to officially change his profession for personal benefits, local Arabic daily Al Raya reported yesterday.
