Members of Rapid Action Battalian 4 arrested nine officials of an unauthorised multi-level marketing (MLM) company from Konabari area of Gazipur on Sunday.
The RAB team also seized 56 blank stamps with clients’ signatures, a laptop, and different forged documents used for the company’s activities to cheat people.
The arrested are Mohammed Aminul Islam Tushar, Mohammed Abul Kalam Azad, Mohammed Shahabul Islam, Mohammed Shahin Alam, Mohammed Saifur Rahman, Mohammed Alamgir, Mohammed Limon, Mohammed Sweet, and Mohammed Abu Taher Masum.
Chairman of the company Mohammed Shahidul Islam managed to flee sensing the presence of RAB.
Assistant Director of RAB 4 Mohammed Badrul Alam Mollah said the arrested had been carrying out illegal activities through the unauthorised MLM company at a rented office on the fourth floor of Maksuda Manjil in the area for a long time.
Using fake documents, they have offered jobs to a number of youths in Gazipur and reaslised Tk28,000 from them and took their signatures on blank stamp papers, said the RAB official.
However, later they were not appointed and were harassed and threatened in different ways when they demanded their money back.
Acting on a tip-off, the team had conducted the raid, he said.
